Chris Brown Called Out for Lip-Syncing at the Billboard Music Awards

Um, does that mean we should never expect him to sing live? Okay then!

  •  If the Billboard Music Awards seemed a little short on awards presentations, that's because the lady who won everything didn't show up. Had Adele made the voyage across the pond to Las Vegas, she would have picked up 12 trophies, including wins for top artist, top female artist and top album.

Rihanna's new favorite photo.
  •  Also not present: Rihanna, who was a little busy joining Jay-Z and Kanye West onstage at London's O2 arena for the songs "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," "Run This Town," and "All of the Lights."

She also tweeted a photo of an older lady taking a hit from what appears to be the world's biggest joint, writing, "Why she suckin on my soul mate???"

  •  Rapper 50 Cent is the latest public figure to voice his support of gay marriage, reportedly telling an interviewer, "If everyone else is for it, then hey, to each his own. I don't have personal feelings towards it because I'm not involved in that lifestyle. I want people to be happy. It makes for everything to be better."

He should have stopped there. But he didn't. He got offensive: "We need organizations for straight men. We do. We need organizations for straight men in the case you've been on the elevator and somebody decides they want to grab your little buns. Times are changing. Those organizations are set up for at one point they were being attacked for those choices. Now its completely different. Obviously is more socially accepted."

Remember, if you will, that in September 2010 the rapper tweeted, "Perez hilton calld me douchebag so I had my homie shoot up a gay wedding. wasnt his but still made me feel better."

Chris Brown is a controversial and divisive figure for many reasons, but it's generally (and in some cases begrudgingly) accepted that the Virginia native is an extremely talented performer. But after his pre-recorded rendition of "Turn Up the Music" at Sunday's Billboard Music Awards, critics—including some of his famous peers—are starting to wonder if he's all flash and no substance.

Also, Adele won everything, and the music world mourns another disco icon with the passing of the Bee Gees' Robin Gibb.

  •  There was no hint of spontaneity in Chris Brown's performance of "Turn Up the Music" at Sunday evening's Billboard Music Awards. Though the consistent radio favorite showcased an impressive set of washboard abs as he hotstepped before a pair of stunt BMX riders and a not-so-subtle plug for his new line of creepy-faced designer toys, it wasn't enough to impress those who expect live vocals from the talent.

Singer Pink, a reliable source when it comes to calling it like it is, tweeted, "One day if i lipsync i hope i do it as well as him..." during Brown's performance. Unsurprisingly, some of Brown's more aggressive fans launched a Twitter attack on the singer, prompting her to write, "Oh my lord, its so easy...its so damn easy. Keep it coming people, this is some good reading..."

Pink's professional moto-cross racer husband Carey Hart addressed the BMX presence on Brown's stage, telling a colleague, "if any of your guys are riding on Chris Brown performance, please fire them." He also sniped, "Im pretty sure i saw my wife did that same performance, but she was 3 months pregnant and actually sang the song."

Fans misinterpreted this as a jab at Katy Perry, but Hart was actually referring to Pink's 2010 performance of "Raise Your Glass" at the American Music Awards, which had precisely the same set as Brown's.

Joe Jonas—who, it should be noted, collaborated with Chris Brown on a song last year—tweeted, "What happened to people singing live???" And Sports Illustrated model Chrissy Teigen simply wrote, "Why sing when you can dance?" She's been facing some truly misguided, usually mispelled online vitriol ever since.

Brown appears to have shrugged off the criticism, writing, "Must be too bright outside! I'm finding the "shade" and keeping cool! Love and blessings!" He also tweeted a picture of himself with a monkey (?) and later added, "Don't hold ya breath waiting for me to stop doing me!"
