2012 Costume Institute Gala-Best and Worst Dressed

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana
Longtime Dolce & Gabbana devotee and spokesmodel Scarlett Johansson looked like someone torn from the cover of a bodice ripper in an opulent jewel-encrusted gown with a romantic tulle skirt. She downplayed the glitz of the dress with windswept hair and minimal makeup.
Elizabeth Banks in Mary Katranzou
Elizabeth Banks is straight up fearless. When she zipped into this intensely architectural Mary Katranzou gown, she had to have known she'd end up in the back pages of Us Weekly above lame jokes about her being able to balance her drink on her peplum.
Dakota Fanning in Louis Vuitton
Dakota Fanning just turned 18, so we can hardly blame her for wanting to look like a fairy princess. Her frothy frock was not Disney Couture but Louis Vuitton, although it looked extremely youthful paired with her fuss-free straight locks. College kids can't be bothered with updos.
Lana Del Ray in Altuzarra
Lana Del Rey cracked her signature pseudo-smile beneath dramatic burgundy lipstick, which amplified the classic vibe of her glittering Altuzarra dress. No word if the photographers asked her to twirl in a dazed circle to show off her full-length cape.
